Laura F. Jacobs, MD, PhD Dr. Laura Jacobs has been NormaTec's President & CEO since 1998. Under her direction, the company manufactures and distributes the NormaTec PCD, a state-of-the-art Pneumatic Compression Device, which is the core component of Pneumatic Medicine. The NormaTec PCD is now prescribed by licensed healthcare practitioners throughout the United States. The key feature of the NormaTec PCD is the patented Peristaltic Pulse pneumatic waveform, which was developed by Dr. Jacobs after more than a decade of clinical experience and research. The Peristaltic Pulse pneumatic waveform permits consistently excellent clinical outcomes for a wide array of peripheral vascular diseases, including venous insufficiency, chronic wounds, and post-mastectomy and other types of lymphedema. Dr. Jacobs pioneered the concept of Pneumatic Medicine and has worked extensively to develop the specific clinical protocols used to treat peripheral vascular disorders. She offers training in Pneumatic Medicine to healthcare practitioners who are seeking to improve the clinical outcomes for their patients with these very challenging diseases. NormaTec is devoted to pursuing research to expand the clinical uses of Pneumatic Medicine (examples: after total knee replacement; for patients with claudication; for patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy; and for those with sports injuries). Additional research is focused on understanding its potential as it relates to angiogenesis. Dr. Jacobs received a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She later received an MD from Temple University School of Medicine, and is Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). After her engineering and medical training, Dr. Jacobs was the medical director of in-patient Rehabilitation at Temple University Hospital. She also served five years as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center, and was an Assistant Professor of PM&R at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. |
